Nitro Secure their first 3 points with Leffler Brace

Northern Kentucky Nitro took on Dana Gardens FC on Saturday for their third OVPL match of the Spring. Nitro had fallen one goal short in their previous two matches which have left them tied at the bottom of the table. To keep the trend, only one goal separated Nitro and Dana Gardens as well. However, with an early opener from Cory Knaley, and a first half brace from Zack Leffler, Northern Kentucky were able to hold on to the three points to surpass the two remaining winless teams, Dana Gardens FC and Ohio Galaxies FC, in the OVPL table.

As the season progresses, Nitro have still been having trouble holding leads. Northern Kentucky squandered 2 goal leads to Valhalla FC and Kings Hammer in preseason to draw those matches, along with a 2-1 lead vs Cincy SC in the season opener to lose 3-4. This was almost the case on Sunday as Josh McKinney headed home a Dana Gardens goal in the 80th minute, followed by another goal from Hellebusch just two minutes later. Thankfully, Northern Kentucky Nitro were able to regain control to keep the 3 points, the game ending 3-2 in their favor.

Northern Kentucky Nitro take on league leaders Lexington Landsharks on Sunday. April 18th at 7PM at Riverside Park.
